“The Stanzas of Dzyan – A Study Guide” by Nick Mojzesz.
The Absolute is the one life, the one Reality, with all other aspects of the universe merely being an illusion.
Before any of the events occurred at the beginning of the universe, there was only the Absolute.
— Darkness — Darkness is the most common symbology used for the Absolute.
The Darkness of the Absolute, however, is Absolute Light.
“Darkness” is a symbol common to many religions.
Darkness is the best way to describe the Absolute — it cannot be described in any other way. (Darkness is also the best way to describe the Absolute, because it is something totally beyond the understanding of man. It is as if the Absolute were behind a dark cloak, impervious to any examination by man.)
Be careful not to confuse (1) the Darkness that symbolzes the Absolute with (2) the Darkness that symbolizes Mulaprakriti.
— Descriptions of the Absolute — There are, however, terms which attempt to label the state or condition of the Absolute.
Please note that these terms are often a negation, saying what the Absolute is not, rather than saying what it is. — Other Names for the Absolute — One of the difficulties of studying the Stanzas of Dzyan is that a number of different names are used for the Absolute. Here is a list of the various names used for the Absolute.
Please note that HPB prefers to use the names Absolute and Parabrahm, while Prem and Ashish prefer to use the names Darkness and Source. — Five Aspects of the Absolute —
Time does not exist within a Pralaya, but there is something called Duration.
The phrase “limitless Time” is used.
Time does not exist during a Pralaya. However, a periodic measurement called “Seven Eternities” passes and ends.
The Great Breath is the name of Eternal Motion, a Motion that continues even during a Pralaya.
(4) Primordial Matter (Mulaprakriti) Undifferentiated Mulaprakriti (Father-Mother) “exists” even during a Pralaya.
See also Mother. Divine Thought is a term used often in The Secret Doctrine.
Divine Thought is never defined, but it is an aspect of the Absolute.
Divine Thought is not similar to conscious, human-like thought.
Divine Thought is eternal, while Divine Ideation is periodical.
Here are some equivalent names for Divine Thought. • Absolute Consciousness
• Absolute Mind
• Absolute Thought
• Divine Mind
• Mind
• Pre-cosmic Ideation
See also Cosmic Ideation. • Thought Divine
It is important to note that Prem and Ashish in their book, Man the Measure of All Things, use the term Universal Mind to refer to Mahat (The Son, The Third Logos). It is this writer’s contention that Universal Mind more correctly refers to an aspect of the Absolute, rather than Mahat (The Son), as Prem and Ashish suggest. Spirit, along with Matter (also called Root-Matter), pictured below in Figure 2, are the two aspects which emerge from the Absolute at the beginning of our universe. |
Figure 3, shown below, displays the naming convention most often used in the Stanzas of Dzyan for the Absolute, Spirit, and Matter (Darkness, Father, and Mother).
|
|
The naming convention shown above in Figure 4 is commonly used in The Secret Doctrine. Father, also called Spirit or Purusha, is one of the two differentiations that emerge from the Absolute at the beginning of a Maha-Manvantara. Here is a list of the various names used for Father.
Mother, also called Matter, Pre-matter, or Mulaprakriti, is one of the two differentiations that emerge from the Absolute at the beginning of a Maha-Manvantara.
The use of the word “matter” can be confusing. It is used with two different meanings in different parts of the Stanzas of Dzyan. Here are the two meanings.
Original matter (also called Pre-matter or Mulaprakriti is the basic substance of the universe. It is the substance from which atoms are made. Mulaprakriti (original matter) is “eternal”, in that it lasts even during periods of cosmic rest. Atomic matter is Mulaprakriti that has been formed into atoms. These atoms only appear periodically (during periods of cosmic activity), and disappear (devolve back into Mulaprakriti) during periods of cosmic rest. Please note the word Matter usually refers to Mulaprakriti (original matter) not atomic matter in The Secret Doctrine.
Here is a list of the various names used for Mother.
It is important to note that some terms are easily confused with Mulaprakriti (Mother).
Father-Mother refers to Father and Mother being combined as one (within the Absolute) before a Manvantara starts.
As a new Manvantara beings, Mother (Mulaprakriti) emerges from the Absolute, then Father (Spirit) emerges from Mother.
|
Here is a list of the various names for Father-Mother.
|
The Father and Son then proceed from the Mother.
|
According to Theosophy, Mulaprakriti appeared, then Spirit (Purusha) appeared.
However, many religions refer to an event called Creation, which puts things into a different order of occurance. Theosophy refers to this “Creation” as the Second Creation.
Unmanifested, Manifested, Arupa, Rupa There are a few terms used in the Secret Doctrine that are confusing, and need to be defined. They are Unmanifested, Manifested, Arupa (being in the Formless Worlds), and Rupa (being in the Worlds of Form). We will discuss each term, working our way from the bottom up.
|
Rupa means having form, having a body. (SD vol 1 p 89)
Everything in the physical world (plants, animals, humans, etc.) is said to be in the World of Form. Humans occupy bodies of definite form, which are physical, astral, and mental bodies. These worlds of form are said to be Rupa (“form”) worlds. In the higher Planes of Existence, beings are said to not have specific forms or shapes. These beings are said to exist in the Arupa (“formless”) worlds, and not have a definite form. Where is the exact division between Arupa and Rupa levels? A chart on vol 1 p 200 of The Secret Doctrine shows the three highest Planes of Existence to be Arupa, and the four lower Planes to be Rupa.
Everything at the level of Mahat and below are part of the manifested universe. The two objects above Mahat are Father and Mother. Father has emerged from the Absolute, but the Father is said to be unmanifest. Father and Mother combine into Father-Mother, which is said to be manifest-unmanifest.
Differentiation is a Theosophical concept that is the same as Manifestation. The universe is said to have differentiated from the Absolute. The First Logos (Father) is undifferentiated, The Second Logos (Father-Mother) is only in the beginning stages of differentiation, and the Third Logos (Son) is fully differentiated.
Fohat is the dynamic energy-bridge that links spirit and matter. It is the energy that energizes every piece of matter (physical and higher) of the universe.
Fohat is the workhorse of The Primordial Seven, Mahat (The Son), and The Will of the Creative Logos.
Now, back to our story. A ray from the Father enters the Mother and fertilizes the Egg, as shown in Figure 6 below.
|
Eggs and Mahat (The Son) A series of events occur involving eggs, which culminates in the appearance of Mahat (The Son). |
The series of events:
2. The World Egg appears.
Mahat is the first “manifestation” of the universe.
It is important to note that Mahat is the God which is worshipped by most of the world’s religions.
Here is a list of the various names used for Mahat.
|
We now have the Three, which encompass the first part of the story. Collectively, these Three are called the Logos. We are familiar with the terms Spirit (Father), Matter (Mother), and Unversal Mind (Son) to describe the beginning of our universe. There is another term with the same general idea — Logos. Here are the equivalents in meaning.
It may seem strange that we have this extra set of terms, but Blavatsky uses these terms often. Therefore, a student of Theosophy needs to be familiar with these terms. Let’s look at the origin of the word Logos.
The term Oeaohoo is introduced in Shloka i-3-5.
Oeaohoo stands for the Absolute.
The term Oi-Ha-Hou is introduced in Shloka i-4-4.
Oi-ha-hou stands for the Triple Logos.
Oi-Ha-Hou, in its triple-Logos aspect, includes the idea of motion.
Oeaohoo the Younger in Shloka i-3-7 refers to the Son.
(Oeaohoo also has seven letters, which stands for the septenary nature of the universe.)
Oeaohoo, then, can be seen to have one, three, and seven aspects. This is also true of the word Om.
Here are equivalent terms for Logos in the Stanzas of Dzyan and The Secret Doctrine.
Click here for more information about the Logos.

Above is a chart of the from the Absolute which culminate in the Three. (Each blue-colored word is clickable.) These four symbolic words are used often in The Secret Doctrine. Spirit (“Sound”) emerges from Darkness (“Silence”). Spirit causes differentiation within the Waters. These Waters are the Voice. From the Waters (“Voice”) Mahat (“Word”).
Here are the four words.
From the Waters appear an uncountable number of “Monads”, which are also called
The Stanzas use symbolism to describe the process by which Monads appear: The Mother is the Waters. The Father shines his light on the Waters of the Mother, and an uncountable number of reflections on the waves appear. These reflections (“points of light”) are the Monads. |
There is some confusion over the relationship of Monads to the physical universe. On the one hand, Monads are portrayed in the Stanzas as pre-mineral building-blocks from which physical atoms are built. On the other hand, Monads are portrayed as something like “guardian-angels”, a higher-self from which human “souls” have emerged, and will eventually merge back into. The answer is both; Monads are the basic building blocks from which both physical atoms as well as human “souls” are built. From Monads to physical atoms
A human being is a combination of two things — a human body and a “soul”. A human body is made up of organs, which are made up of molecules, which are made up of atoms. Each atom results from a Monadic spark, and each atom is “overseen” by its respective Monad. Each human “soul” is also the result of a Monadic spark.
Our task is to reunite with the Mond that supplied our spark. The next part of the story is the Fall of the Three, creating the Four.
|
Who are the Three? Who are the Four? The answer is not clearly stated in the literature, and it is open to speculation. Sri Prem, in his book Man, Son of Man (p. 2), list the Three as Absolute, Father, & Mother, and list the Four as Absolute, Father, Mother, & Son. Father (pure spirit) and Mother (“pure” matter) cause the Son (the universe) to appear. Some people describe this as a negative Fall, while other people describe this as a positive occurance, a necessary cloaking of spirit with matter for the purpose of having experiences. More than one Fall is mentioned in the literature.
Theosophy teaches there were three Falls.
— The Primordial Fall —
The Jewish/Christian Scriptures skip the First Creation, and start their story mistakenly with the Second Creation.
Perhaps the negativity of the experience can be explained by the sense of separateness experienced at that time.
Thus, we have the Primordial Fall. (Please note that there was also a second Fall, which occured on Earth during the creation of the Human Race. That was the Fall of the Asuras, as decribed in Shloka ii-10-38, The “Sura become the Asura”). The Three
The word “four” appears several times in the Stanzas of Dzyan, and has several meanings:
The Sacred (Holy) Four: (Shlokas i-2-4, i-3-4, i-3-7, i-4-3, i-4-5, i-5-5, & i-7-1)
Here are some other names for the Sacred Four:
The Three and the Four produce the Seven.
|
The Primordial Seven These are the First, Inner, Primoridal Seven, the Dhyani-Chohan of the Universe.
Here is a list of the various names used for The Primordial Seven (Dhyani-Chohan).
“In the beginning of Time, after the Elohim … or the ‘Builders’ … had shaped out of the eternal Essence the Heavens and the Earth, they formed the worlds….” (SD vol 1 p 239)
The Builders take the plan from the Universal Mind, and create it into an objective reality.
Here is a list of the various names used for the Second Seven in the Stanzas of Dzyan.
|
From Mahat appear the Seven Builders (Dhyani Chohan). The Second Seven then appear, creating levels all the way down to the physical level. The concept of Planes of Existence is covered below. The word “Sons” is used several times in the Stanzas of Dzyan, and it is important to keep track of the different meanings.
Mind-born Sons of the First Lord (Solar Pitris)
Seven Sons (The Dhyani-Chohan)
Sons of Darkness
Sons of Manvantaric Dawn
Son of Necessity (the Universe)
Sons of the Fire (Solar Pitris) Son of the Divine Sons (Fohat, son of the Dhyani-Chohans)
Sons of Light (The Dhyani-Chohan)
Son of the Sons (Fohat, son of Dhyani-Chohans)
Here is a chart of the Hierarchy so far, including the Solar and Lunar Pitris. (Click on each blue-colored word.)
|
Lunar Pitris vs. Solar Pitris (“Pitris” is the plural of “Pitri”.) There are two kinds of Pitris, Lunar Pitris and Solar Pitris. (The Solar Pitris are higher in the Hierarchy than The Lunar Pitris.) The Lunar Pitris were an integral part of the original creation of Mankind. The Solar Pitris enter our story during the Third Root-Race, providing unplanned assistance. (The Solar Pitris were undoubtedly also part of the original plan at a level above the Lunar Pitris, but that part of the story has been left out of the Stanzas of Dzyan.) The Lunar Pitris set forth the beginning of mankind.
The Lunar Pitris appear in Theosophical literature under many names, as appearing in this list of names adapted from Barborka’s Divine Plan, p. 118:
Things were not going well in the middle of the Third Root-race on Earth. The human race was behind schedule, so the Solar Pitris took an active role to help speed up the process.
The Solar Pitris appear in Theosophical literature under many names, as appearing in this list of names adapted from Barborka’s Divine Plan, p. 134:
Other levels in the Hierarchy are referred to, but only vaguely. Here is a reference to: • Fifth group in the Hierarchy, who made the human-animal form into a Rational Man.
More concepts in the Stanzas of Dzyan need to be discussed. They are presented here. The Great, Eternal, Ceaseless Breath is the pulsation of the Absolute, even during a universal Pralaya.
Theosophy divides the manifested universe into seven Planes of Existence. For example, in the sentence quoted below, only the top two Planes of Existence have been created up to that point in the story, and the lower five Planes (strides) are then created.
|
The (total) seven strides are the seven planes of existence. The first two planes of existence have already been created, and Fohat now continues on, creating the remaining five planes of existence, from the Atma plane down to the physical plane The “Twice Seven” of Shloka i-4-3 and the “Seven Regions Above and Seven Below” of Shloka i-5-2 are the Seven Planes Of Existence.
Planets are grouped into groups of seven planets. Such a group of planets is called a Chain. |
A Chain always has planets on different Planes of Existence. Our earth is the only planet in our Chain that is on the Physical Plane. The other six planets are on higher Planes. |
Our Earth is called Bhumi in The Secret Doctrine. (Shloka i-7-1) There are two graphics in The Secret Doctrine that portray our Chain.
|
Figure 18 portrays the seven globes of our Chain as compared to the Kabala. Note the names of the Planes of Existence that are used in this graphic.
The next graphic shows both the Earth Chain and the Moon Chain.
|
Note the corresponding planets on each Plane of Existence for both Chains (indicated by different shades of gray). Click here for the use of the word “Chain” as a measurement of time. A Round is the amount of time a life-wave (human, animal, etc.) spends on each of the seven planets in one revolution around a Chain. |
Our human life-wave started the Round on Globe A, moved to Globe B, then moved to Gobe C, and is presently on Earth (Globe D). |
When our alloted time on Earth has ended, our life-wave will move onto the fifth planet of the Round (the next planet of our Chain, which is on the Astral Plane). Other chains exist, as indicated by the graphic above, and these quotes.
The total length of time of our present Round will be 617.1 million years. (C W XIII p. 303) A life-wave (human, animal, etc.) spends time on each of the seven planets in a Chain, in a time-period called a Round. After finishing its time on the seventh planet of the initial Round, it then returns to the first planet, starting the process all over again, and beginning a new Round. This process repeats itself for a total of seven Rounds. |
Our life-wave travels through each of the seven planets (globes) of our Chain, evolving through the elemental, mineral, plant, animal, and human levels of existence.
This process repeats itself for a total of seven Rounds, or 49 “World-Periods”. This period of 49 “World-Periods” is called a Manvantara.
|
Our present-day Earth is the fourth planet of the fourth Round of our Manvantara. This is exactly mid-way through the Manvantara, and mid-way through the fourth Round of that Manvantara. |
This is the lowest possible level of physical manifestation in the universe.
The word “Chain” refers to the existence of seven planets. The word “Manvantara” refers to the time spent by various life-waves on 49 world-periods. The seven planets are created specifically for that Manvantara, and will disappear when that Manvantara is finished. More information on Rounds and Chains was left out of The Secret Doctrine due to space limitations.
Our present Manvantara is in its 25th world-period, yet The Secret Doctrine only discusses conditions on the fourth world-period of the First Round (the 4th world-period), the fourth world-period of the Third Round (the 18th world-period), and our present-day fourth world-period of the Fourth Round (present-day Earth, the 25th world-period). Descriptions of conditions on the other previous 22 world-periods have been omitted.
A Pralaya is a period of rest and non-activity. One example of a Pralaya is the 4.3 billion years of rest that will follow our present Manvantara. There is also a Solar Pralaya, which will be 311 trillion years of rest following our Solar Manvantara.
The Christian “Last Judgement” actually refers to the upcoming 311 trillion Maha (“Great”) Pralaya or period of rest.
The word “Sabbath”, as used in the Bible, refers to a Pralaya. If the writers of the Bible had used the genuine meaning of the word, we would be having seven-day work-weeks, which would be followed by seven-day weekends! A Solar Manvantara is the total active life of our solar system. This corresponds to 311 trillion years (SD vol 2 p 70).
Our presently-human life-wave has traveled through three and a half Rounds, evolving through the first (mineral), second (vegetable), third (animal), and fourth (human) Rounds.
Let’s take a look at each Round.
The characteristics of matter change as evolution takes matter on its journey through the Rounds, and there is a corresponding and simultaneous change to the perceptive faculty or sense of man.
There is one new element for each Round.
Four elements have evolved in the four Rounds that have appeared so far — Fire, Air, Water, and Earth.
The fifth aspect is being developed now (in the fourth Round).
The fifth aspect is Aether (Ether) or Astral Light.
After the fifth element is developed, two more elements will appear, for a total of seven elements.
The two missing Elements are Mind and Understanding.
Geoffrey Barborka lists the last two Elements as Spirit and The Original Principle. (Divine Plan, p. 142) Here, then, are the seven Elements as described by Blavatsky and Barborka. 1 Fire
In summary, seven divine Elements (symbolizing seven divine attributes) are being developed in this Round. The first four have already been developed, we are in the process of developing the fifth, and two more will appear later, for a total of seven Elements (perceptive faculties in man.)
|
There are seven principles in Man, three higher, and four lower.
It is the initial attaching of the three higher principles to the lower four principles that constitute the first Individualization of a human being. Here are the seven principles, from highest to lowest.
Here are the seven Elements and the corresponding seven Principles. 1 – Fire – Physical Body For further reading on The Seven Principles in Man: http://www.theosociety.org/pasadena/gdpmanu/7princ/seven-1.htm http://www.katinkahesselink.net/faq/ex_prin.htm http://www.theosociety.org/pasadena/sd/sd1-1-08.htm http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/DP5/princs.htm The terms Fire, Fires, Flame, and Flames are important Theosophical concepts, and are used in several ways in the Stanzas. They can be very confusing to the reader. Let’s take a close look at the five main definitions of Fire. • Primordial (Spiritual, Logos) Fire Let’s look at examples of each. Fire refers to the First Principle, the Logos, the Father.
This Fire-as-Logos is often referred to as being a Primordial Substance. Here are three examples.
Let’s take a look at each one.
Do not confuse this “Fire-as-Logos as a Primordial Substance” with Mulaprakriti, which is also referred to as the Primordial Substance. The universe is described as being molded out of varying gradients of Fire.
Various principles, Beings, and groups within the Theosophical Hierarchy are referred to as Fires and Flames.
Biblical quotes:
The term Fire(s) is used to describe six different groups of Beings. Here are their various names. • Four Cosmic Angels Let’s look at examples of each.
The term Dhyani-Chohan refers to different levels of beings.
Different groups are referred to as Dhyani-Chohans in The Secret Doctrine. • Primordial Seven (Dhyani-Chohans of the Universe) A point of confusion needs to be covered. The name Dhyani-Chohans refers to both Cosmic (Universe) Dhyani-Chohans and Kosmic (Solar) Dhyani-Chohans. It is important for the reader to distinguish the two. In The Secret Doctrine, the name Dhyani-Chohans most often refers to Kosmic (Solar) Dhyani-Chohans. Let’s take a look at each group referred to as Dhyani-Chohans.
The Solar Dhyani-Chohans are called the Solar Pitris.
Each Round is controlled by a group of Dhyani-Chohans.
The Lunar Dhyani-Chohans are called the Lunar Pitris.
• Solar Pitris (Agnishvatta, Kumaras, the Asuras who “Fell”)
• Lunar Pitris (“Pitris”, Barhishads, Progenitors, Prajapatis) — Possessors of the “Creative Fire”
In the following quote, Creative Fire is called Creative Passion.
• Sons of Ad, Sons of the Fire-Mist, Sons of Will and Yoga The Sons of the Fire-Mist (also called the Sons of Will and Yoga) were a group of semi-divine and semi-human beings who incarnated in the Third Race, in order to form the nursery for future human adepts.
Our Human Higher Self (Manas or Intellect), one of our seven Principles, is described as a Fire.
In the following quote (quoted above, and repeated here), Fire (Manas) is called passion; the lower Barhishad had it, the higher Agnishvatta did not.
The Flame in Shlokas i-7-4 and i-7-5 refers to Atma-Buddhi (& Manas).
|
The Stanzas make references to several parts of the Sutratman, and to the Sutratman itself.
The Sutratman is a thread which passes from the universal Flame, into a person’s Atman, through all of their preceeding incarnations, and into their present incarnation. The Sutratman Thread (“Thread of Fohat” in Shloka i-7-5 and “Thread” in Shloka i-7-2) starts in the universal Flame. It passes through the Monad (also called the Jiva of SD vol 2 p 46 & SD vol 1 p 238, the Jivatman of Divine Plan p. 89, The Silent Watcher of Shloka 1-7-6, and the Spark). The Sutratman passes through each incarnation (“Shadow” in Shloka 1-7-6 & 1-7-7), and links up with the present incarnation. In review, here are some key terms.
We now begin the study of the Stanzas of Dzyan in Book II of The Secret Doctrine, which tell the story of the appearance of Humanity on Earth. We humans have traveled a long journey. We spent the previous Round as animals, and then came to Earth to be the human race. Humanity on Earth is scheduled to appear in seven races called Root-Races. Five Root-races have already appeared, and two more will appear in the future. However, things at the beginning of our human race did not turn out as planned. Let’s take a look at the step-by-step creation of our humanity, along with the problems that accompanyed that process. First Root-Race: The Chhayas It may come as a surprise, but the first Root-Race, the Chhayas, only existed on the astral plane, and did not have physical bodies.
The astral bodies of the Chhyas were created by the Lunar Pitris.
The astral bodies of the Fourth-Round Chhyas were created from astral matter carried over from the Third Round.
The Chhayas are called The Sons of the Self-Born. They are also referred to as Shadows, because they only existed on the astral plane, lacking physical bodies.
The Chhayas are also called The Sons of Yoga.
The Chhaya are also called the Sons of the Sons of Twilight.
Chhayas — The First Race — appeared initially as astral off-shoots from the Progenitors (and never had physical bodies.)
The process by which the Chhayas were created is called Fission.
The Chhayas have completely disappeared.
The Hyperboreans, like the Chhayas before them, existed only on the astral plane (not incarnating into physical bodies).
The Second Race (Hyperboreans) appeared initially as astral buds from The First Race (Chhayas).
The Hyperboreans are called the Sweat-Born, because later members of their race were produced by budding.
The Chhayas lived out their entire time in a single astral body, and eventually made the transition into the Hyperboreans. There must have been significant differences between the two races, but that information has been left out of The Secret Docrtrine. The Chhayas and Hyperboreans have completely disappeared, without leaving any fossil remains (as they never had physical bodies).
The Lemurians were the first to incarnate into physical bodies.
The initial humans of the Third Race were formed by “budding” from the previous Race.
Here is another example of the Third Race being called the Sons of Passive Yoga.
Subsequent generations of the Third Race were called the “Egg-born”, which refers to Budding on the physical plane.
The separation of the sexes occured during the Lemurian Root-Race.
The Third Race, then, can be divided into three periods.
(Please note there were three Falls.)
The separation of the sexes quickly led to the the Fall of Man. As soon as the sexes separated, sexual activity began, which was quickly misused. This led to Half-Human Abominations.
The early Lemurians are referred to as androgynous or a-sexual. The middle-group of Lemurians are referred to as hermaphrodite or bi-sexual.
The last group of Lemurians are referred to as normally-sexual, or male and female.
The physical part of humanity is eighteen million years old, which a point of time within the Third Race.
This process of evolution did not happen overnight. Aeons of time were required for each step.
The Third Race is grouped into three groups:
Early members of the Third Race are grouped into three categories — advanced, average, and lagging. The Solar Pitris chose the first group, and incarnated into bodies of that group. The Solar Pitris were the Divine Leaders, the Divine Kings that are referred to in titles that British monarchs have used. Today’s Ceylon was part of the Lemurian continent.
All was not going well. Two problems emerged.
The Lunar Pitris were able to provide astral forms for the new humans, but were unable to provide Manas or higher minds.
Humans finally developed Manas or intelligence.
Manas, or Intelligence, first appeared in the Third Race and became well-established in the Fourth Race.
Strange, half-human monsters such as minotaurs, satyrs, and mermaids appeared.
These monsters, the first result of ensouling physical bodies, are called the Second Humanity.
The Lords of the Flame balked at the idea of incarnating into those bodies.
Earthly evolution at that point could be called a failure.
The physical abominations were destroyed.
(Please note there were three Falls.)
“The history begins by the descent on Earth of the ‘Gods’ who incarnate in mankind, and this is the FALL.” (SD vol 2 p 483) “Satan and his rebellious host would thus prove, when the meaning of the allegory is explained, to have refused to create physical man, only to become the direct Saviours and the Creators of ‘divine Man.’ The symbolical teaching is more than mystical and religious, it is purely scientific, as will be seen later on. For, instead of remaining a mere blind, functioning medium, impelled and guided by fathomless LAW, the ‘rebellious’ Angel claimed and enforced his right of independent judgment and will, his right of free-agency and responsibility, since man and angel are alike under Karmic Law. [Footnote: Explaining Kabalistic views, the author of the ‘New Aspects of Life’ says of the Fallen Angels that, ‘According to the symbolical teaching, Spirit, from being simply a functionary agent of God, became volitional in its developed and developing action; and, substituting its own will for the Divine desire in its regard, so fell. Hence the Kingdom and reign of Spirits and spiritual action, which flow from and are the product of Spirit-volition, are outside, and contrasted with, and in contradiction to the Kingdom of Souls and Divine action.’ So far, so good; but what does the Author mean by saying, ‘When man was created, he was human in constitution, with human affections, human hopes and aspirations. From this state he fell — into the brute and savage’? This is diametrically opposite to our Eastern teaching, and even to the Kabalistic notion so far as we understand it, and to the Bible itself. This looks like Corporealism and Substantialism colouring positive philosophy, though it is rather hard to feel quite sure of the Author’s meaning (see p. 235). A FALL, however, ‘from the natural into the supernatural and the animal’ — supernatural meaning the purely spiritual in this case — means what we suggest.]” (SD vol 1 p 194) “…the ‘Self-created’ and the ‘Self-existent’ projected their pale shadows; but group the Third, the Fire-Angels, rebelled and refused to join their Fellow Devas.” (SD vol 2 p 242) “…tradition shows the celestial Yogis offering themselves as voluntary victims in order to redeem Humanity — created god-like and perfect at first — and to endow him with human affections and aspirations. To do this they had to give up their natural status and, descending on our globe, take up their abode on it for the whole cycle of the Mahayuga, thus exchanging their impersonal individualities for individual personalities — the bliss of sidereal existence for the curse of terrestrial life. This voluntary sacrifice of the Fiery Angels, whose nature was Knowledge and Love, was construed by the exoteric theologies into a statement that shows ‘the rebel angels hurled down from heaven into the darkness of Hell’ — our Earth.” (SD vol 2 p 246) Arrival of The Lords of the Flame (Solar Pitris) The Lords of the Flame (Solar Pitris) came down to assist our human evolution. They succeeded in helping us develop our mental abilities.
The assistance of the Lords of the Flame was received during the Third Race. Humans as we know them today — physical humans with accompanying astral and mental bodies, and using bisexual reproduction — finally appeared. Fourth Root-Race: The Atlanteans
Atlanteans were the first physical, intellect-using race.
The appearance and disappearance of races is gradual, and the different races always overlap.
Atlantis ended when its continent sank under the ocean.
Atlantis was the last part of history where newly-individualized humans had their first incarnation.
The Greeks came from the Atlanteans.
Atlantis was a time of negativity.
The negativity of Lemuria and Atlantis led to the creation of today’s mystery religions.
Other Physical Characteristics The Third and Fourth Root-races were marked by other physical characteristics. They were
The giants disappeared, and the centuries marched on. Humanity continued to get smaller and smaller, reaching its five- to six-foot stature of today.
Evidence exists today of these prehistoric giants.

A third eye did physically exist, giving us psychic abilitiies, but withered away as man became more mired in the physical world.
There have been several Floods throughout history — not a single Flood, as written in the Bible.
The Biblical flood was not the first flood.
In Theosophy, “Flood” refers to several different events.
The Odyssey is a story that refers to real interactions between “normal-sized” humans and Atlantean giants.
There are other stories of a small race fighting with a race of giants.
The statues on Easter Island give a clue.
The Egyptians were descendents of the Atlanteans.
Egyptian culture was a remnant of older cultures.
Stonehenge was built by Cyclopean giants.
Three observations come to light as a result of studying the Stanzas.
One of the problems Theosophy has with beliefs like the Biblical Creation Story is that complex organisms (humanity, planets, galaxies, etc.) appear in a very short time. Madame Blavatsky, in the quote below, refutes “evolution by sudden laps and bounds”.
Theosophy, on the other hand, teaches that these organisms take a long time, eons, to appear. One thing that jumped out at this writer (after having read the Stanzas) is that the Dhyani Chohan have worked very diligently at creating humanity, having put out a great deal of effort. A Human Race does not just appear — a great deal of details must be worked out along the way, and humans must be crafted and formed in intimate details at every step along the way. We humans think objects and ideas just appear here in the physical world. Theosophy teaches us just the opposite. Every object, every concept that appears is first conceived on a higher plane, then is crafted and caused to manifest on the physical plane. This is clearly against the concept of evolution as taught by the Darwinians. Species are not accidents.
Each species is first conceived of as an idea in the mind of the respective Elemental, then created on Earth. PART TWO: THE STANZAS OF DZYAN We have come to the end of the study of the concepts in The Stanzas of Dzyan. It is time to look at the 19 Stanzas, arranged into two Books. Book 1 • Stanza i-1: Rest, non-activity, nothing exists. • Stanza i-2: An inkling of things to come. The Two. • Stanza i-3: The re-awakening of the universe to Life. Mahat (The Son). Monads. Consciousness and Manifestation. • Stanza i-4: The septenary Hierarchy and the Dhyani Chohan. The “Creation” of the universe, so familiar to the world’s religions. • Stanza i-5: The formation of cosmic matter, nebulae, solar systems, and planets. • Stanza i-6: A continuation of the formations started in Stanza Five, down to the Fourth Period of our world. • Stanza i-7: The appearance of Man. Book 2 • Stanza ii-1: Invocation of the Earth to the Sun, and the Sun’s answer. • Stanza ii-2: Nature unaided fails. Monsters appear and are destroyed. • Stanza ii-3: Attempts to create Man. The Gods refuse to cooperate. • Stanza ii-4: Creation of the First Races. The Creators are perplexed how to create a THINKING man. • Stanza ii-5: The Evolution of the Second Race. • Stanza ii-6: The Second Race creates the Third and perishes. • Stanza ii-7: The Higher Creators reject in their pride the forms evolved by the “Sons of Yoga.” The first man endowed with mind. • Stanza ii-8: Evolution of the animal mammalians. — The First Fall • Stanza ii-9: The Creators repent and atone for their neglect. Men become endowed with minds. Every androgynous unit is separated and becomes bisexual. • Stanza ii-10: The Birth of the Fourth, Atlantean Race. They fall into sin and beget children and monsters. The first germs of Anthropomorphism and sexual religion. They lose their “third Eye.” • Stanza ii-11: Lemuria destroyed by fire, Atlantis by water. The Flood. The destruction of the last antediluvian monster-animals. • Stanza ii-12: The Fifth Race and Its Divine Instructors.
THE STANZAS OF DZYAN~~~ BOOK ONE ~~~ COSMIC EVOLUTION (—) In Seven Stanzas translated from the Book of Dzyan. STANZA i-1.
i-1-1. THE ETERNAL PARENT (Space) WRAPPED IN HER EVER INVISIBLE ROBES HAD SLUMBERED ONCE AGAIN FOR SEVEN ETERNITIES. [interpretation] i-1-2. TIME WAS NOT, FOR IT LAY ASLEEP IN THE INFINITE BOSOM OF DURATION. [interpretation] i-1-3. UNIVERSAL MIND WAS NOT, FOR THERE WERE NO AH-HI (Celestial Beings) TO CONTAIN (hence to manifest) IT. [interpretation] i-1-4. THE SEVEN WAYS TO BLISS (Moksha [Footnote: Mokhsa is Indian for Nirvana] or Nirvana) WERE NOT. THE GREAT CAUSES OF MISERY WERE NOT, FOR THERE WAS NO ONE TO PRODUCE AND GET ENSNARED BY THEM. [interpretation] i-1-5. DARKNESS ALONE FILLED THE BOUNDLESS ALL, FOR FATHER, MOTHER AND SON WERE ONCE MORE ONE, AND THE SON HAD NOT AWAKENED YET FOR THE NEW WHEEL, AND HIS PILGRIMAGE THEREON. [interpretation] i-1-6. THE SEVEN SUBLIME LORDS AND THE SEVEN TRUTHS HAD CEASED TO BE, AND THE UNIVERSE, THE SON OF NECESSITY, WAS IMMERSED IN PARANISHPANNA, TO BE OUTBREATHED BY THAT WHICH IS AND YET IS NOT. NAUGHT WAS. [interpretation] i-1-7. THE CAUSES OF EXISTENCE HAD BEEN DONE AWAY WITH; THE VISIBLE THAT WAS, AND THE INVISIBLE THAT IS, RESTED IN ETERNAL NON-BEING — THE ONE BEING. [interpretation] i-1-8. ALONE THE ONE FORM OF EXISTENCE STRETCHED BOUNDLESS, INFINITE, CAUSELESS, IN DREAMLESS SLEEP; AND LIFE PULSATED UNCONSCIOUS IN UNIVERSAL SPACE, THROUGHOUT THAT ALL-PRESENCE WHICH IS SENSED BY THE OPENED EYE OF THE DANGMA. [interpretation] i-1-9. BUT WHERE WAS THE DANGMA WHEN THE ALAYA OF THE UNIVERSE WAS IN PARAMARTHA AND THE GREAT WHEEL WAS ANUPADAKA? [interpretation] STANZA i-2.
i-2-1. . . . WHERE WERE THE BUILDERS, THE LUMINOUS SONS OF MANVANTARIC DAWN? . . . IN THE UNKNOWN DARKNESS IN THEIR AH-HI PARANISHPANNA. THE PRODUCERS OF FORM (Rupa) FROM NO-FORM (Arupa), THE ROOT OF THE WORLD — THE DEVAMATRI AND SVABHAVAT, RESTED IN THE BLISS OF NON-BEING. [interpretation] i-2-2. . . . WHERE WAS SILENCE? WHERE THE EARS TO SENSE IT? NO, THERE WAS NEITHER SILENCE NOR SOUND; NAUGHT SAVE CEASELESS ETERNAL BREATH (Motion), WHICH KNOWS ITSELF NOT. [interpretation] i-2-3. THE HOUR HAD NOT YET STRUCK; THE RAY HAD NOT YET FLASHED INTO THE GERM; THE MATRIPADMA (Mother Lotus) HAD NOT YET SWOLLEN. [interpretation] i-2-4. HER HEART HAD NOT YET OPENED FOR THE ONE RAY TO ENTER, THENCE TO FALL, AS THREE INTO FOUR, INTO THE LAP OF MAYA. [interpretation] i-2-5. THE SEVEN SONS WERE NOT YET BORN FROM THE WEB OF LIGHT. DARKNESS ALONE WAS FATHER-MOTHER, SVABHAVAT; AND SVABHAVAT WAS IN DARKNESS. [interpretation] i-2-6. THESE TWO ARE THE GERM, AND THE GERM IS ONE. THE UNIVERSE WAS STILL CONCEALED IN THE DIVINE THOUGHT AND THE DIVINE BOSOM. . . . [interpretation]
STANZA i-3.
i-3-1. . . . THE LAST VIBRATION OF THE SEVENTH ETERNITY THRILLS THROUGH INFINITUDE. THE MOTHER SWELLS, EXPANDING FROM WITHIN WITHOUT, LIKE THE BUD OF THE LOTUS. [interpretation] i-3-2. THE VIBRATION SWEEPS ALONG, TOUCHING WITH ITS SWIFT WING (simultaneously) THE WHOLE UNIVERSE AND THE GERM THAT DWELLETH IN DARKNESS: THE DARKNESS THAT BREATHES (moves) OVER THE SLUMBERING WATERS OF LIFE. . . [interpretation] i-3-3. DARKNESS RADIATES LIGHT, AND LIGHT DROPS ONE SOLITARY RAY INTO THE MOTHER-DEEP. THE RAY SHOOTS THROUGH THE VIRGIN EGG, THE RAY CAUSES THE ETERNAL EGG TO THRILL, AND DROP THE NON-ETERNAL (periodical) GERM, WHICH CONDENSES INTO THE WORLD-EGG. [interpretation]
STANZA i-3.
i-3-4. THEN THE THREE FALL INTO THE FOUR. THE RADIANT ESSENCE BECOMES SEVEN INSIDE, SEVEN OUTSIDE. THE LUMINOUS EGG (Hiranyagarbha), WHICH IN ITSELF IS THREE, CURDLES AND SPREADS IN MILK-WHITE CURDS THROUGHOUT THE DEPTHS OF MOTHER, THE ROOT THAT GROWS IN THE DEPTHS OF THE OCEAN OF LIFE. [interpretation] i-3-5. THE ROOT REMAINS, THE LIGHT REMAINS, THE CURDS REMAIN, AND STILL OEAOHOO IS ONE. [interpretation] i-3-6. THE ROOT OF LIFE WAS IN EVERY DROP OF THE OCEAN OF IMMORTALITY, AND THE OCEAN WAS RADIANT LIGHT, WHICH WAS FIRE, AND HEAT, AND MOTION. DARKNESS VANISHED AND WAS NO MORE; IT DISAPPEARED IN ITS OWN ESSENCE, THE BODY OF FIRE AND WATER, OR FATHER AND MOTHER. [interpretation] i-3-7. BEHOLD, OH LANOO! THE RADIANT CHILD OF THE TWO, THE UNPARALLELED REFULGENT GLORY: BRIGHT SPACE SON OF DARK SPACE, WHICH EMERGES FROM THE DEPTHS OF THE GREAT DARK WATERS. IT IS OEAOHOO THE YOUNGER, THE * * * HE SHINES FORTH AS THE SON; HE IS THE BLAZING DIVINE DRAGON OF WISDOM; THE ONE IS FOUR, AND FOUR TAKES TO ITSELF THREE, AND THE UNION PRODUCES THE SAPTA, IN WHOM ARE THE SEVEN WHICH BECOME THE TRIDASA (OR THE HOSTS AND THE MULTITUDES). BEHOLD HIM LIFTING THE VEIL AND UNFURLING IT FROM EAST TO WEST. HE SHUTS OUT THE ABOVE, AND LEAVES THE BELOW TO BE SEEN AS THE GREAT ILLUSION. HE MARKS THE PLACES FOR THE SHINING ONES, AND TURNS THE UPPER (space) INTO A SHORELESS SEA OF FIRE, AND THE ONE MANIFESTED (element) INTO THE GREAT WATERS. [interpretation] ** i-3-8 **. WHERE WAS THE GERM AND WHERE WAS NOW DARKNESS? WHERE IS THE SPIRIT OF THE FLAME THAT BURNS IN THY LAMP, OH LANOO? THE GERM IS THAT, AND THAT IS LIGHT, THE WHITE BRILLIANT SON OF THE DARK HIDDEN FATHER. [interpretation] i-3-9. LIGHT IS COLD FLAME, AND FLAME IS FIRE, AND FIRE PRODUCES HEAT, WHICH YIELDS WATER: THE WATER OF LIFE IN THE GREAT MOTHER (Chaos). [interpretation] i-3-10. FATHER-MOTHER SPIN A WEB WHOSE UPPER END IS FASTENED TO SPIRIT (Purusha) — THE LIGHT OF THE ONE DARKNESS — AND THE LOWER ONE TO ITS (the Spirit’s) SHADOWY END, MATTER (Prakriti); AND THIS WEB IS THE UNIVERSE SPUN OUT OF THE TWO SUBSTANCES MADE IN ONE, WHICH IS SVABHAVAT. [interpretation] i-3-11. IT (the Web) EXPANDS WHEN THE BREATH OF FIRE (the Father) IS UPON IT; IT CONTRACTS WHEN THE BREATH OF THE MOTHER TOUCHES IT. THEN THE SONS DISSOCIATE AND SCATTER, TO RETURN INTO THEIR MOTHER’S BOSOM AT THE END OF THE GREAT DAY, AND RE-BECOME ONE WITH HER; WHEN IT (the Web) IS COOLING IT BECOMES RADIANT, AND THE SONS EXPAND AND CONTRACT THROUGH THEIR OWN SELVES AND HEARTS; THEY EMBRACE INFINITUDE. [interpretation] i-3-12. THEN SVABHAVAT SENDS FOHAT TO HARDEN THE ATOMS. EACH IS A PART OF THE WEB (Universe). REFLECTING THE “SELF-EXISTENT LORD” (Primeval Light) LIKE A MIRROR, EACH BECOMES IN TURN A WORLD. [interpretation]
STANZA i-4.
i-4-1. . . . LISTEN, YE SONS OF THE EARTH, TO YOUR INSTRUCTORS — THE SONS OF THE FIRE. LEARN, THERE IS NEITHER FIRST NOR LAST, FOR ALL IS ONE: NUMBER ISSUED FROM NO NUMBER. [interpretation] i-4-2. LEARN WHAT WE WHO DESCEND FROM THE PRIMORDIAL SEVEN, WE WHO ARE BORN FROM THE PRIMORDIAL FLAME, HAVE LEARNT FROM OUR FATHERS. . . . [interpretation] i-4-3. FROM THE EFFULGENCY OF LIGHT — THE RAY OF THE EVER-DARKNESS — SPRUNG IN SPACE THE RE-AWAKENED ENERGIES (Dhyan Chohan); THE ONE FROM THE EGG, THE SIX, AND THE FIVE. THEN THE THREE, THE ONE, THE FOUR, THE ONE, THE FIVE — THE TWICE SEVEN THE SUM TOTAL. AND THESE ARE THE ESSENCES, THE FLAMES, THE ELEMENTS, THE BUILDERS, THE NUMBERS, THE ARUPA (formless), THE RUPA (with bodies), AND THE FORCE OF DIVINE MAN — THE SUM TOTAL. AND FROM THE DIVINE MAN EMANATED THE FORMS, THE SPARKS, THE SACRED ANIMALS, AND THE MESSENGERS OF THE SACRED FATHERS (the Pitris) WITHIN THE HOLY FOUR. [interpretation] i-4-4. THIS WAS THE ARMY OF THE VOICE — THE DIVINE MOTHER OF THE SEVEN. THE SPARKS OF THE SEVEN ARE SUBJECT TO, AND THE SERVANTS OF, THE FIRST, THE SECOND, THE THIRD, THE FOURTH, THE FIFTH, THE SIXTH, AND THE SEVENTH OF THE SEVEN. THESE “SPARKS” ARE CALLED SPHERES, TRIANGLES, CUBES, LINES, AND MODELLERS; FOR THUS STANDS THE ETERNAL NIDANA — THE OEAOHOO (OI-HA-HOU) . [interpretation] i-4-5. THE OEAOHOO (OI-HA-HOU) IS THE “DARKNESS” THE BOUNDLESS, OR THE NO-NUMBER, ADI-NIDANA SVABHAVAT: —
AND THESE THREE ENCLOSED WITHIN THE ARE THE SACRED FOUR; AND THE TEN ARE THE ARUPA UNIVERSE. THEN COME THE “SONS,” THE SEVEN FIGHTERS, THE ONE, THE EIGHTH LEFT OUT, AND HIS BREATH WHICH IS THE LIGHT-MAKER. [interpretation]
STANZA i-5.
i-5-1. THE PRIMORDIAL SEVEN, THE FIRST SEVEN BREATHS OF THE DRAGON OF WISDOM, PRODUCE IN THEIR TURN FROM THEIR HOLY CIRCUMGYRATING BREATHS THE FIERY WHIRLWIND. [interpretation] i-5-2. THEY MAKE OF HIM THE MESSENGER OF THEIR WILL. THE DZYU BECOMES FOHAT, THE SWIFT SON OF THE DIVINE SONS WHOSE SONS ARE THE LIPIKA*, RUNS CIRCULAR ERRANDS. FOHAT IS THE STEED AND THE THOUGHT IS THE RIDER. HE PASSES LIKE LIGHTNING THROUGH THE FIERY CLOUDS; TAKES THREE, AND FIVE, AND SEVEN STRIDES THROUGH THE SEVEN REGIONS ABOVE, AND THE SEVEN BELOW. HE LIFTS HIS VOICE, AND CALLS THE INNUMERABLE SPARKS, AND JOINS THEM. [interpretation] * The difference between the “Builders,” the Planetary Spirits, and the Lipika must not be lost sight of. (See Nos. 5 and 6 of this commentary.) (SD vol 1 p 107 note) i-5-3. HE IS THEIR GUIDING SPIRIT AND LEADER. WHEN HE COMMENCES WORK, HE SEPARATES THE SPARKS OF THE LOWER KINGDOM THAT FLOAT AND THRILL WITH JOY IN THEIR RADIANT DWELLINGS, AND FORMS THEREWITH THE GERMS OF WHEELS. HE PLACES THEM IN THE SIX DIRECTIONS OF SPACE, AND ONE IN THE MIDDLE — THE CENTRAL WHEEL. [interpretation] i-5-4. FOHAT TRACES SPIRAL LINES TO UNITE THE SIXTH TO THE SEVENTH — THE CROWN; AN ARMY OF THE SONS OF LIGHT STANDS AT EACH ANGLE, AND THE LIPIKA IN THE MIDDLE WHEEL, THEY SAY: THIS IS GOOD, THE FIRST DIVINE WORLD IS READY, THE FIRST IS NOW THE SECOND (world). THEN THE “DIVINE ARUPA” REFLECTS ITSELF IN CHHAYA LOKA, THE FIRST GARMENT OF THE ANUPADAKA. [interpretation] i-5-5. FOHAT TAKES FIVE STRIDES AND BUILDS A WINGED WHEEL AT EACH CORNER OF THE SQUARE, FOR THE FOUR HOLY ONES AND THEIR ARMIES (hosts). [interpretation] i-5-6. THE LIPIKA CIRCUMSCRIBE THE TRIANGLE, THE FIRST ONE, THE CUBE, THE SECOND ONE, AND THE PENTACLE WITHIN THE EGG. IT IS THE RING CALLED “PASS NOT” FOR THOSE WHO DESCEND AND ASCEND. ALSO FOR THOSE WHO DURING THE KALPA ARE PROGRESSING TOWARDS THE GREAT DAY “BE WITH US.” THUS WERE FORMED THE RUPA AND THE ARUPA: FROM ONE LIGHT SEVEN LIGHTS; FROM EACH OF THE SEVEN, SEVEN TIMES SEVEN LIGHTS. THE WHEELS WATCH THE RING. . . . [interpretation]
STANZA i-6.
** i-6-1 **. BY THE POWER OF THE MOTHER OF MERCY AND KNOWLEDGE — KWAN-YIN — THE “TRIPLE” OF KWAN-SHAI-YIN, RESIDING IN KWAN-YIN-TIEN, FOHAT, THE BREATH OF THEIR PROGENY, THE SON OF THE SONS, [CALLS UPON], FROM THE LOWER ABYSS, THE ILLUSIVE FORM OF SIEN-TCHANG AND THE SEVEN ELEMENTS. [interpretation] i-6-2. THE SWIFT AND RADIANT ONE PRODUCES THE SEVEN LAYA CENTRES, AGAINST WHICH NONE WILL PREVAIL TO THE GREAT DAY “BE-WITH-US,” AND SEATS THE UNIVERSE ON THESE ETERNAL FOUNDATIONS, SURROUNDING TSIEN-TCHAN WITH THE ELEMENTARY GERMS. [interpretation] ** i-6-4 **. HE BUILDS THEM IN THE LIKENESS OF OLDER WHEELS, PLACING THEM ON THE IMPERISHABLE CENTERS. HOW DOES FOHAT BUILD THEM? HE COLLECTS THE FIERY DUST. HE MAKES BALLS OF FIRE, RUNS THROUGH THEM, AND ROUND THEM, INFUSING LIFE THEREINTO,THEN SETS THEM INTO MOTION; SOME ONE WAY, SOME THE OTHER WAY. THEY ARE COLD, HE MAKES THEM HOT. THEY ARE DRY, HE MAKES THEM MOIST. THEY SHINE, HE FANS AND COOLS THEM. THUS ACTS FOHAT FROM ONE TWILIGHT TO THE OTHER, DURING SEVEN ETERNITIES. . [interpretation] ** i-6-5 **. AT THE FOURTH (Round, or revolution of life around the “seven smaller wheels”), THE SONS ARE TOLD TO CREATE THEIR IMAGES. ONE THIRD REFUSES — TWO (thirds) OBEY. THE CURSE IS PRONOUNCED; THEY WILL BE BORN ON THE FOURTH (Race), SUFFER AND CAUSE SUFFERING; THIS IS THE FIRST WAR. [interpretation] i-6-6. THE OLDER WHEELS ROTATED DOWNWARDS AND UPWARDS. . . . THE MOTHER’S SPAWN FILLED THE WHOLE (Kosmos). THERE WERE BATTLES FOUGHT BETWEEN THE CREATORS AND THE DESTROYERS, AND BATTLES FOUGHT FOR SPACE; THE SEED APPEARING AND RE-APPEARING CONTINUOUSLY. [interpretation] i-6-7. MAKE THY CALCULATIONS, LANOO, IF THOU WOULDEST LEARN THE CORRECT AGE OF THY SMALL WHEEL [(Chain)]. ITS FOURTH SPOKE IS OUR MOTHER (Earth). REACH THE FOURTH “FRUIT” OF THE FOURTH PATH OF KNOWLEDGE THAT LEADS TO NIRVANA, AND THOU SHALT COMPREHEND, FOR THOU SHALT SEE . . . . . [interpretation]
STANZA i-7.
i-7-1. BEHOLD THE BEGINNING OF SENTIENT FORMLESS LIFE. FIRST THE DIVINE [VEHICLE], THE ONE FROM THE MOTHER-SPIRIT [ATMAN]; THEN THE SPIRITUAL (Atma-Buddhi, Spirit-soul); THE THREE FROM THE ONE, THE FOUR FROM THE ONE, AND THE FIVE FROM WHICH [EMERGE] THE THREE, THE FIVE, AND THE SEVEN. THESE ARE THE THREE-FOLD, THE FOUR-FOLD DOWNWARD; THE “MIND-BORN” SONS OF THE FIRST LORD (Avalokiteshwara); THE SHINING SEVEN. IT IS THEY WHO ARE THOU, ME, HIM, OH LANOO. THEY, WHO WATCH OVER THEE, AND THY MOTHER, BHUMI [EARTH]. [interpretation] i-7-2. THE ONE RAY MULTIPLIES THE SMALLER RAYS. LIFE PRECEDES FORM, AND LIFE SURVIVES THE LAST ATOM OF FORM. THROUGH THE COUNTLESS RAYS PROCEEDS THE LIFE-RAY, THE ONE, LIKE A THREAD THROUGH MANY JEWELS. [interpretation] i-7-3. WHEN THE ONE BECOMES TWO, THE THREEFOLD APPEARS, AND THE THREE ARE ONE; AND IT IS OUR THREAD, OH LANOO, THE HEART OF THE MAN-PLANT CALLED SAPTAPARNA. [interpretation] i-7-4. IT IS THE ROOT THAT NEVER DIES; THE THREE-TONGUED FLAME OF THE FOUR WICKS. THE WICKS ARE THE SPARKS, THAT DRAW FROM THE THREE-TONGUED FLAME SHOT OUT BY THE SEVEN — THEIR FLAME — THE BEAMS AND SPARKS OF ONE MOON REFLECTED IN THE RUNNING WAVES OF ALL THE RIVERS OF EARTH. [interpretation] i-7-5. THE SPARK HANGS FROM THE FLAME BY THE FINEST THREAD OF FOHAT. IT JOURNEYS THROUGH THE SEVEN WORLDS OF MAYA. IT STOPS IN THE FIRST [KINGDOM], AND IS A METAL AND A STONE; IT PASSES INTO THE SECOND [KINGDOM] AND BEHOLD — A PLANT; THE PLANT WHIRLS THROUGH SEVEN CHANGES AND BECOMES A SACRED ANIMAL. FROM THE COMBINED ATTRIBUTES OF THESE, MANU [MAN], THE THINKER IS FORMED. WHO FORMS HIM? THE SEVEN LIVES, AND THE ONE LIFE. WHO COMPLETES HIM? THE FIVE-FOLD LHA. AND WHO PERFECTS THE LAST BODY? FISH, SIN, AND SOMA [THE MOON]. . . . . [interpretation] i-7-6. FROM THE FIRST-BORN THE THREAD BETWEEN THE SILENT WATCHER AND HIS SHADOW BECOMES MORE STRONG AND RADIANT WITH EVERY CHANGE [REINCARNATION] . THE MORNING SUN-LIGHT HAS CHANGED INTO NOON-DAY GLORY. . . . . [interpretation] i-7-7. THIS IS THY PRESENT WHEEL, SAID THE FLAME TO THE SPARK. THOU ART MYSELF, MY IMAGE, AND MY SHADOW. I HAVE CLOTHED MYSELF IN THEE, AND THOU ART MY VAHAN [VEHICLE] TO THE DAY, “BE WITH US,” WHEN THOU SHALT RE-BECOME MYSELF AND OTHERS, THYSELF AND ME. THEN THE BUILDERS, HAVING DONNED THEIR FIRST CLOTHING, DESCEND ON RADIANT EARTH AND REIGN OVER MEN — WHO ARE THEMSELVES. [interpretation]
BOOK TWO~~~ ANTHROPOGENESIS IN THE SECRET VOLUME. STANZA ii-1
ii-1-1. THE LHA WHICH TURNS THE FOURTH (Globe, or our Earth) IS SUBSERVIENT TO THE LHA(S) OF THE SEVEN (the planetary Spirits), THEY WHO REVOLVE, DRIVING THEIR CHARIOTS AROUND THEIR LORD, THE ONE EYE. HIS BREATH GAVE LIFE TO THE SEVEN (gives light to the planets); IT GAVE LIFE TO THE FIRST. “THEY ARE ALL DRAGONS OF WISDOM,” adds the Commentary. [interpretation]
STANZA ii-2
ii-2-5. THE WHEEL WHIRLED FOR THIRTY CRORES MORE (of years, or 300,000,000). IT CONSTRUCTED RUPAS (forms): SOFT STONES THAT HARDENED (minerals); HARD PLANTS THAT SOFTENED (vegetation). VISIBLE FROM INVISIBLE, INSECTS AND SMALL LIVES. SHE SHOOK THEM OFF HER BACK WHENEVER THEY OVERRAN THE MOTHER. ….AFTER THIRTY CRORES SHE TURNED ROUND. SHE LAY ON HER BACK; ON HER SIDE . . . SHE WOULD CALL NO SONS OF HEAVEN, SHE WOULD ASK NO SONS OF WISDOM. SHE CREATED FROM HER OWN BOSOM. SHE EVOLVED WATER-MEN, TERRIBLE AND BAD. [interpretation]
STANZA ii-3
ii-3-11. THE LORD OF THE LORDS CAME. FROM HER BODY HE SEPARATED THE WATERS, AND THAT WAS HEAVEN ABOVE, THE FIRST HEAVEN (the atmosphere, or the air, the firmament). [interpretation]
STANZA ii-4
ii-4-14. THE SEVEN HOSTS, THE “WILL (or Mind)-BORN LORDS,” PROPELLED BY THE SPIRIT OF LIFE-GIVING (Fohat), SEPARATE MEN FROM THEMSELVES, EACH ON HIS OWN ZONE.
“WE GAVE IT OUR OWN,” SAID THE DHYANIS. THE BREATH NEEDED A VEHICLE OF DESIRES; “IT HAS IT,” SAID THE DRAINER OF WATERS. BUT BREATH NEEDS A MIND TO EMBRACE THE UNIVERSE; “WE CANNOT GIVE THAT,” SAID THE FATHERS. “I NEVER HAD IT,” SAID THE SPIRIT OF THE EARTH. “THE FORM WOULD BE CONSUMED WERE I TO GIVE IT MINE,” SAID THE GREAT FIRE . . . . MAN REMAINED AN EMPTY SENSELESS BHUTA . . . . THUS HAVE THE BONELESS GIVEN LIFE TO THOSE WHO BECAME MEN WITH BONES IN THE THIRD.
STANZA ii-5
ii-5-18. THE FIRST (Race) WERE THE SONS OF YOGA. THEIR SONS THE CHILDREN OF THE YELLOW FATHER AND THE WHITE MOTHER.
STANZA ii-6
ii-6-22. THEN THE SECOND EVOLVED THE EGG-BORN, THE THIRD (Race). THE SWEAT GREW, ITS DROPS GREW, AND THE DROPS BECAME HARD AND ROUND. THE SUN WARMED IT; THE MOON COOLED AND SHAPED IT; THE WIND FED IT UNTIL ITS RIPENESS. THE WHITE SWAN FROM THE STARRY VAULT (the Moon) OVERSHADOWED THE BIG DROP. THE EGG OF THE FUTURE RACE, THE MAN-SWAN (Hamsa) OF THE LATER THIRD. FIRST MALE-FEMALE, THEN MAN AND WOMAN. [interpretation]
STANZA ii-7
ii-7-24. THE SONS OF WISDOM, THE SONS OF NIGHT (issued from the body of Brahma when it became Night), READY FOR REBIRTH, CAME DOWN, THEY SAW THE (intellectually) VILE FORMS OF THE FIRST THIRD (still senseless Race), “WE CAN CHOOSE,” SAID THE LORDS, “WE HAVE WISDOM.” SOME ENTERED THE CHHAYA. SOME PROJECTED THE SPARK. SOME DEFERRED TILL THE FOURTH (Race). FROM THEIR OWN RUPA THEY FILLED (intensified) THE KAMA (the vehicle of desire). THOSE WHO ENTERED BECAME ARHATS. THOSE WHO RECEIVED BUT A SPARK, REMAINED DESTITUTE OF (higher) KNOWLEDGE; THE SPARK BURNED LOW. THE THIRD REMAINED MIND-LESS. THEIR JIVAS (Monads) WERE NOT READY. THESE WERE SET APART AMONG THE SEVEN (primitive human species). THEY BECAME NARROW-HEADED. THE THIRD WERE READY. “IN THESE SHALL WE DWELL,” SAID THE LORDS OF THE FLAME. [interpretation]
STANZA ii-8
ii-8-28. FROM THE DROPS OF SWEAT; FROM THE RESIDUE OF THE SUBSTANCE; MATTER FROM DEAD BODIES OF MEN AND ANIMALS OF THE WHEEL BEFORE; AND FROM CAST-OFF DUST, THE FIRST ANIMALS WERE PRODUCED.
——- STANZA ii-9
ii-9-33. SEEING WHICH (the sin committed with the animals), THE LHAS (the spirits, the “Sons of Wisdom”) WHO HAD NOT BUILT MEN (who had refused to create), WEPT, SAYING: —
——- STANZA ii-10
ii-10-38. THUS TWO BY TWO ON THE SEVEN ZONES, THE THIRD RACE GAVE BIRTH TO THE FOURTH-RACE MEN; THE GODS BECAME NO-GODS; THE SURA BECAME A-SURA.
——- STANZA ii-11
ii-11-43. THEY (the Lemurians) BUILT HUGE CITIES. OF RARE EARTHS AND METALS THEY BUILT, AND OUT OF THE FIRES (lava)) VOMITED, OUT OF THE WHITE STONE OF THE MOUNTAINS (marble) AND OF THE BLACK STONE (of the subterranean fires), THEY CUT THEIR OWN IMAGES IN THEIR SIZE AND LIKENESS, AND WORSHIPPED THEM.
STANZA ii-12
ii-12-47. FEW MEN REMAINED: SOME YELLOW, SOME BROWN AND BLACK, AND SOME RED REMAINED. THE MOON-COLORED (of the primitive Divine Stock) WERE GONE FOREVER. [interpretation]
